It’s very important to monitor the dam’s temperature during the final stages of pregnancy, as this can provide valuable information about the timing of the birth and allow for adequate preparation and support during the whelping process. An event known as the ‘pre-whelping temperature drop’ typically occurs within 24-48 hours before the onset of labour, and is generally followed by the start of contractions and the delivery of puppies.
Note: Temperature tracking is only available on the Breedera Complete Plan, which requires a subscription. But, any temperature records you’ve added in the past are always accessible for you to view. So you can pause your subscription any time without losing access to anything you’ve added previously.
How to record temperatures
There are two ways to add temperature records to a pregnancy. Firstly, you can navigate to the pregnancies list of any female, tap to view or update the pregnancy record, then scroll down to the Temperatures section and tap to add temperature. Or, you can tap the (+) PLUS button from the dogs list, and select ‘Temperature’, then chose the dog you wish to add temperature records for.
Once several temperature records have been added, you’ll be able to see the results on a temperature graph. This graph will display inside the dog’s Pregnancy records, or in their Temperatures records page.
