Mike White, Founder and CEO of Breedera recently delivered a talk and hosted panel at Leeds Digital Festival 2024, sharing his journey from from a simple idea to a transformative app that’s helping dog breeders around the world.
Hosted by Barclays Eagle Labs at Avenue HQ, the event was a brilliant opportunity for pet care and veterinary startups to connect, learn and grow in the rapidly evolving VetTech and pet care industries.
Here’s a recap of the key highlights from Mike’s talk and the fascinating discussions that followed:
Leeds Digital Festival spotlights Breedera’s startup story
Mike’s startup journey began with a passion for animals while working in his family veterinary equipment business.
What started as an idea quickly grew into a side hustle, which eventually became Breedera – a comprehensive app designed for dog breeders to manage everything from health records to breeding schedules.
His talk at Eagle Labs explored the challenges and triumphs of taking Breedera from a small concept to a platform that is now changing the way breeders track their dogs’ health and wellbeing.
Partnership with Purina
A key moment in Breedera’s growth came when the startup partnered with UNLEASHED by Purina, one of the world’s biggest pet care brands.
Mike shared insights into what it’s like working with a giant in the industry as a lean startup and how Breedera navigated that relationship to elevate their app to the next level.
For budding entrepreneurs in the pet care space, Mike emphasised the importance of positioning your business for similar opportunities, offering valuable advice on how to approach partnerships and collaborations.
The latest innovations in Pet Care and VetTech
After sharing Breedera’s story, Mike hosted a panel of experts from Trakia University-Stara Zagora, alongside Sam Hoste from Quantech Solutions.
Tara Rosenzia, Rosalie Roobol, and Alejendra Guerrero from the university discussed their own groundbreaking research and innovation in the industry and revealed how the latest technology is helping improve the lives of animals, from better diagnostics to improving overall health outcomes.
Sam also revealed the success of Agrillo, an app that’s helping the agricultural sector keep track of pesticides and ensure regulatory compliance.
This event at Leeds Digital Festival brought together thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators from across the pet care and veterinary industries. A huge thank you to Bob Spence, Business Development Specialist and Amy Morgan from Barclays Eagle Labs who organised the session.
